Although monochrome isn't necessarily my "thing", every now and again there's a piece that I just can't live without. The El Moro dress by Bluejuice is one of these pieces! The loose-fitting shift shape is comfortable while the beaded detailing injects just the right amount of femininity into the piece. The combination of the two and the almost art deco appearance of the beading reminds me of the beautiful fashion era of the 1920s.
So with that being said; I needn't explain how much I love shift dresses. They are both effortless and versatile; suit day dressing and night dressing and can be worn in a multitude of different ways to achieve the perfect look for just about any occasion. As an example of this, I've found three simple ways to style a shift dress with totally different end looks:
1. The Casual Brunch or Meeting-
Team with an oversized boyfriend blazer and a pair of chunky-heel ankle boots. The blazer adds the 'casual' element, while the boots lift the look and give it a slightly sophisticated and confident feel. One thing to note though - make sure your blazer is about two inches shorter than your dress; its all about proportion.
2. The Special Event -
Pair with a waisted belt and heels such as I've done for this look. These elements will show off your figure and achieve a feminine, yet relaxed look. Pick a style with overtly feminine detailing to accentuate this look, for example a dress with beaded or metallic detailing or made of a delicate lace fabric.
3. The Music Festival / Concert / Carnival -
Throw on with Chuck Taylors and a tartan or denim shirt or leather jacket tied at the waist. Totally casual and comfortable, and will give the dress a distinctly tomboy edge. Try a shift in a stripe jersey or marle for this look.
