Khaki Crush

http://www.thelovelythrills.com/2016/03/khaki-crush.html

Wearing: Dotti white cape (on sale $20), Mango white cami (purchased in Barcelona), Vintage khaki leather skirt (from U-Turn Vintage on Crown Street Sydney), Wittner 'Buckley' khaki suede heels (on sale $60), Lack of Color 'Midnight Muse' fedora

Lately I am finding myself constantly attracted to khaki. I remember back about twelve years ago, I was standing with my mum while she was talking to one of her friends (who I think worked in the fashion & beauty industry). During the conversation, the friend told me my skin tone and hair colour meant I was best-suited to wearing darker colours, like khaki, burgundy and navy. At the time I hated the advice because I was young and wanted to be wearing bright, fun colours, but as I've grown older I've realised it's really not a bad thing.

I bought this skirt from a vintage store on Crown Street in Sydney for little more than $30. It was in about 2008 when leather skirts were just becoming fashionable, and my cousin and I would spend many weekends in and out of stores on Crown Street searching for the best vintage bargains. At the time I think I bought the skirt just because it was so cheap; the same day I also bought a black one from another store that I wore far more often. But I've always loved the uniqueness of this one, and in the many times I've cleared out my wardrobe since then; even though I'd only worn this once I could never bear to part with it.

This is pretty much a whole bargain outfit. I didn't spend more than $60 on any one piece (which is unusual for me!) and as much as I love splashing [ridiculous] amounts of money on expensive wardrobe staples, bargain hunting is also great fun.
I found this white Dotti cape during a recent DFO trip with my sister. I've been a fan of the cape trend from a distance over the past six months; loving the look on other girls but not feeling confident to try it myself (and not willing to spend $200+ on a cape I may never actually wear). This bargain piece was just the push I needed to adopt the trend myself.
I think one of the main reasons I've always been hesitant to try this look is because it's always felt a bit outrageous to wear a jacket longer than your shorts / skirt. But the lightweight look of this one made it feel like a very relaxed, summery piece, and I love that it is so easily styled with warm weather outfits like this. The right cape adds a level of style 'maturity' to an outfit; still casual but with an air of "I know what I'm doing here" (even if you're just winging it like me!)

Back onto khaki - the reason for this post! Other khaki pieces I'm loving right now, in every shade imaginable:
