Two very different collections from the Resort 14 season, which stole my heart for entirely different reasons.
BARBARA BUI
Barbara Bui is a designer I regret to admit I hadn't heard of before this season, but I was totally blown away by her resort collection. Stepping away from the traditional resort expectations, Bui has presented a bold and clean-cut range centralised around tailored & structured pieces and an incredible vibrant tropical bird graphic.
I've always been a fan of classic sophistication and this collection provides that, with the added elements of edgy silhouettes and masculine fabric choices in leather and denim. The colour palatte is predominantly monochrome, allowing the garment styles to be the heroes.
RACHEL ZOE
Rachel Zoe has presented a collection which embodies everything I have come to anticipate from the Resort / Cruise season. She has proven herself as a designer as well as a stylist; one of the few women in the industry who can excel in both.
This collection has me dreaming of the shores of Italy and the Greek Isles, fulfilling what all great fashion collections should do in transporting you to another place. This I feel is particularly true of the resort season - what better to design than a range one could see themselves wearing as they explored the foreign lands the collection feels it was specifically designed for?
The combination of loose shapes, horizontal stripes and a bold, primary colour palette are all right on trend, and create a highly wearable collection which would appeal to a wide range of women. Personally I'm obsessed! The styling is fantastic, and is clearly a direct reflection of Zoe's personal style which is a great attribute to herself as a designer.
I'm so intrigued to see what she produces next!
